Every month, from January until October, a box of my recommended seeds for sowing.

I worked through 2024 with Premier Seeds Direct to create collections of seeds for sowing each month, based on my sowing timeline. It’s an important part of successful gardening to start seeds at their best time, which is different for every vegetable.

Month Price No. of Varieties
Jan & Feb £12.99 9
March £22.99 16
April £17.99 13
May £17.99 12
June £17.99 10
July £12.99 9
August £12.99 9
Sep & Oct £12.99 8

Before deciding to work with them, I grew selections of their seeds. I want to be recommending a good product, and I’ve been impressed on three counts.

  1. The seeds are excellent value.
  2. The germination is strong.
  3. The variety choice works well. For example, the kohlrabi and fennel are not named varieties, but they grew into decent bulbs.

Each monthly collection has a range of seeds and when you buy them, they come with my suggested timings and a description of why I have chosen them.

Fantastic!

This combined with the calendar is brilliant. You get so many seeds you could feed an army. I have a 0.6acre plot and I think I will fill it. If only I could calculate how many containers were required as I keep running out. Found that pumpkins were not in the April box but in the calendar. Just not sure if you plant the entire box or save some for other monthly entries in the calendar. If this was aligned there could be an allotment pack or family of 4 pack etc. Include the containers and you would never buy another vegetable. Just need a greenhouse now to propagate everything

Hi Dan. Many thanks for your feedback :)

I have emailed you with some info on how the dates Charles gives in his sowing calendar relate to the seeds given in his monthly collections.

In summary, the dates given in the calendar are specific to Charles's climate (although they can be adapted to suit different climates) and include several additional factors. Whereas the Planner gives the range of sowing and planting dates which are most suitable for beginners, and the date ranges are calculated using climate data from the nearest weather station, so it's more specific to the local climate.

However, you can add the sowing dates give in the calendar to the Planner, info on how to do this here:
