Invisible energies have always intrigued me, since 1983 in particular, when I transplanted two beds of Brussels sprouts, one with lettuce plants between and one with Brussels plants on their own.

I expected larger Brussels plants where there was no ‘competition’ from nearby lettuce, and was mainly hoping for a ‘free harvest’ of lettuce in the wide spaces unused before the Brussels grew large. That was normal thinking in those days.

I was then amazed to see larger and stronger Brussels sprout plants where lettuce were filling the spaces between them. It looked more like cooperation than competition, and got me thinking. I had a lot to learn about nature and her processes.

My reference points since then, when trialling different tools, gardening methods and timings, have been to observe variations in plant growth, and weights of harvest where applicable. That’s the easy bit. It’s more difficult to enumerate and explain the changes effected by sowing at different moon phases, spreading water energised by vortices and intentions, and using copper tools as opposed to iron.

Water is, for me and others, a big field of study. Our bodies and plants are mostly made up of water, and it’s always in the air, with attributes that are little mentioned, such as its fourth phase. We can benefit so much by learning more about water’s qualities and potential, which we can then apply to increase plant growth and health.

I now feel that there is a strong interest in energies and interactions which are hard to measure and explain. This led me in August 2024 to offer ‘Energy Gardening’ courses at home in Somerset. These have been a sell-out, generating much interest, not to mention good energy!

As a result, I decided to write this book, with the aim of helping the reader to grow a healthier, more productive garden, as well as to understand energies perhaps not yet thought of.

Subjects include:

  • Solar dowsing with five sticks, to raise soil temperature
  • Sowing in relation to moon phases
  • Values of copper/bronze tools
  • Stirring water into vortices, at two particular times of year
  • Electroculture of various types, including energy towers
  • Tuning into our own power through gut health and vitality
